Archaeological discoveries have revealed objects from the Neolithic Age (Vinca-Culture Turdas) and eneolithic (Culture with painted ceramic type of Petresti). In the age of metals, here develop  important  community belonging Cultures of Cotofeni, Wietenberg and new  and first iron age (Hallstatt).

From the second age of iron (Latene), there are plenty of discoveries, the most important site was discovered at the Capalna (at about 18 km south of Sebes) where the Ghergheleu hill at an altitude of 610 meters, is located an important Dacian fortress, part of a defensive system in Orastie Mountains.

First built as a Roman Basilica in romanesque style, the church later took on a gothic appearance with renaissance elements. Only the nave has been preserved from of the original church built between 1240 and 1270. Throughout the centuries, gothic elements were added to the structure, such as the richly decorated choir built between 1361 and 1382. The Evangelical Church in Sebes boasts the largest altar of all churches in Transylvania. Richly decorated with paintings and carvings, the polychrome wooden altar was designed between 1518 and 1526, marking the transition from gothic to renaissance style.

The church was repainted in 1752 and again, in 1904. In the late 18th century, an organ made by Master Johannes Hahn of Sibiu was placed below the belfry. In 1893, it was replaced by a new organ made by the brothers Rieger of Jagendorf (Silesia).

St Jacob’s chapel, on the north side of the church, was built in gothic style in the 14th century.  Images depicting the lives of St Francis of Assisi and St Nicholas are still visible on the murals.

Located  downtown, near the City Hall in the  north of the city, the building was built of stone in the XV-th century and increased, substantially, in the next century.

At the present  appearance we can see  elements of the building structure and decoration, that belong to several architectural styles such as Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance. In the XV-th century the house was a small palace, built in gothic style, which served as headquarters of the Diet of Transylvania, and later the residence of” Voivodes” of the province.

Here  died on 21 July 1540, voivode, then King of Hungary, John Zapolya. The name "Zapolya House" or "Könighaus,is connected to this event .

Although it had many restorations over the centuries XVIII-XX, the southern facade of the building maintains the appearance of specific  buildings of the XVI.  century

In 1939 here was the headquarters of the Ethnic German Group, and after nationalization, the building became the headquarters of the Trade Unions. Of 1951 the "House Zapolya" was turned into a museum, and remained like this till now. The monument was restored in the period 1960-1962. Since 1997 the museum belongs to the Cultural Center "Lucian Blaga". In the autumn of 2001 the Museum of Sebes  changed its name in the Municipal Museum "John Raica.”

Geological and geomorphological Reserve, at about 3 km from Sebes (25 ha),on Plasii Hill, the road that connects the town to the village of Daia Romana  in the north. Rapa Rosie is a geological reserve, a  monument of nature (1969), with an area of 10 ha. Its walls were high between 80 and 100 m.

The water  digging the hill about 60 million years ago left her shift strange forms: columns, towers, pyramids, all reddish color. Deep precipices open to the  left and to the right , and the rain water formed small bloody rivers , that fall to the bottom of the precipice, with a strange noise .

The birds were digging  dozens of holes in the clay. Here live rare  plants (Ephedra distachya, Centaurca atropurpurea, Dianthus serotinus, and a rare species of Cephalaria radiated and fern-Asplenium adiantum nigrum). Descending towards the bridge over the Secas river, the attention is drawn by the  tunnels dug by the rain water that fall over time, forming huge ditches.

Detritice deposits from Rapa Rosie consist of an alternate of red clays, gray, red and white grit stones and  white limestone marne. These formations are easily friabile where the flow of the water accompanied by processes sufoziune, set and collapse  carved a  richness of forms that make Rapa Rosie monument of a rare beauty .. On the steep  Red Mountain the soil is washed and it appear clays, grit stones, conglomerates. Above all you can see the slightly reddish soil. On both sides of the mountain you can  meet brown forest soils . These are often associated with the rocks formed from carbonated soft ones(marne, marne clay, clays marne). In the meadow of Large Secaş  were formed soils that are permanently wet because of the  groundwater.

The Hydrography is represented by the Large Secas River with a length of 42 km and a basin area of 581 km2, but has a reduced flow because of the amount of very low rainfall, which falls on the Plateau Secas. Red Mountain existence is linked to the regressive erosion of a torrent, right affluent of the Large Secaş

In time The Red Mountain has developed into a tourist attraction more and more often chosen  paragliding and deltaplan fliers that fly out of the hills in front of Red Mountain to the whole town and the surrounding hills.
